No matter what the price is and whether you live in India or the UK, dates have been enjoyed incredibly creating wholesale and retail markets around the world! Dates, particularly organic Medjool dates, offer the fullest possible gastronomic experience because of their succulent and meaty texture.
The Medjool date, with its flavour that is evocative of caramel and maple syrup, is a true candy that comes from nature.
Why Should You Consider Buying Organic Medjool Dates?
Dates that meet the requirements for organic certification are grown without the use of pesticides or artificial fertilisers.
It is healthier for the surrounding area, the soil, the workers, and those of us who consume the dates.
Having said that, this does not come without a price.
Dates that are organically grown typically cost approximately 25–30% more than conventionally grown dates.
The reason for this is that farmers tend to have a lower yield, and sometimes a significant number of dates are damaged by insects to the point where they are not suitable for export.
Because of this, we do not mind paying a slightly higher price for organic foods in order to compensate our farmers for the additional labour that is required.
After being picked, how are dates of the Medjool variety processed?
Following harvest, the dates are transported to the storage facility, where they are exposed to sunlight for a period of time equal to or greater than 50 degrees Celsius.
This temperature is the result of the natural growing conditions of palm dates, which means that the fruit is not cooked or altered in any way.
Palm dates are served at this temperature.
Following that, they are cleaned, arranged, and placed in boxes.
The containers are kept at a temperature of -18 degrees Celsius in the freezer so that their shelf life can be extended to almost two years.
The dates do not go through any additional processing or irradiation.
How can we sort Medjool dates?
Dates of the Medjool variety are classified according to their size, which is measured in grammes per fruit, and their level of skin separation, which refers to the quantity of skin that can be removed without damaging the date fruit meat.
This quality control relies solely on visual methods.
This indicates that the product's internal quality, freshness, flavour, and texture, as well as any other relevant characteristics, are identical throughout all export dates.
When a date has a significant skin separation, it may appear as though the date has "dried out," but in reality, the opposite is true. A date that is typically particularly juicy and moist will have a high degree of skin separation.
