World largest peanut producing country and other competitors

In recent years, peanut consumption has consistently increased. Countries around the world begin manufacturing raw peanuts and other peanut-based goods, such as peanut butter.

Largest peanut-producing country

China has been one of the major peanut-producing countries since 2006. Peanut production data shows that China has produced 18.7 million metric tons. The cultivation of peanuts in China has spread to seven regions. The Chinese farmers from frigid northern lands to the hot and humid climate of southern parts of China have been cultivating peanuts and this is the reason that their country became the first producer of peanuts in the world. The five first Chinese provinces that produce peanuts in large quantities are Shandong, Henan, Hebei, Guangdong, and Jiangsu provinces. The temperature of these areas which produce peanuts range from -5 to 25 degrees Celsius. The growth of peanut production in China gets back to 1961. The semi-private ownership incentive in 1980 which was granted to Chinese peanut cultivars gives the production of peanuts an increasing growth rate. Also, the advanced and improved cultivation technology helped the farmers to make this trend more prominent. In 2004, China produced 13 million metric tons of peanuts. According to FAO data, China, by producing 17.02 million metric tons of peanuts in 2013, achieved the top producer of peanuts among peanut producers in the world. Because of this, China amounted the 37.3% of shares of peanut production among other rivals. Largest peanut-producing country

Peanut production in India

India can be named the second top-producing peanut country. In this unbelievably crowded country and the vastly spread fertilized soil, there are numerous farmers who are cultivating peanuts. Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan are the four Indian provinces that have the most peanut production. Gujarat amounted to 51% of the groundnut production of India and this makes it the major nut production province. 20 lakh hectares of land in Gujarat are under cultivation of peanuts which approximately produce 26 lakh tones of peanuts. Amreli, Junagadh, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, and Sabarkantha are the first and top-producing districts in Gujarat which are cultivating peanuts to a great extent. These cities are called the heart of Gujarat. The other cities have a fewer amount of peanut cultivation but their important role in developing agricultural and economical improvements in India cannot be neglected. For example, Andhra Pradesh has a 19% share of peanut production, and Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan have the second and third share in peanut production respectively. Of course, the suitable climate of India is another reason for the great amount of peanut cultivation. The proximity to the ocean causes the climate of Gujarat so astonishing and makes the peanuts farmer take the advantage of this condition and named their area the second name of the peanut production district. USA and peanut production

The United States of America has third place in peanut production. 13 states in America are commercially cultivating and producing peanuts. These states are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia. All these states are located in the southern part of the US. It is because of that in those kinds of areas, the favorable climate will help to cultivate peanuts more conveniently. The condition of the soil can be mentioned as another factor for cultivating peanuts. Among these 13 states, 6 states have a major role in peanut plantations. Georgia, in 2019, produced nearly 50% of the whole portion of the produced peanuts in the US. Georgia is followed by Florida which has approximately one-fifth of the peanut production of Georgia and this share is almost 11% of the US production. Alabama and Texas are the next states which have 10% of the production role. Carolina, in general, produced 12% of the peanut cultivation, 8% of it belongs to North Carolina, and the 4% rest gets back to South Carolina. And Mississippi, Virginia, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Missouri produced over eight percent of the U.S. peanut crop. United states have divided the peanut cultivation areas into three parts. The first area with the most production of peanut crops is called the Southeast region which is consisted of Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi, 65% of all production belongs to the Southeast region. The Virginia-Carolina region with a 13% share is in second place. Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina comprised this region. The Southwest region which has Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arkansas states in its boundaries grew more than 17% of the crop. USA and peanut production

Peanut production in Nigeria

In fourth place, we can see Nigeria in the African continent which is located in the upper middle part of the continent. Nigeria has proximity to the Gulf of Guinea and this proximity makes the Nigerian climate so suitable for the cultivation of different types of plants. Kano, Kaduna, Taraba, Bauchi, Bornu, and Adamawa are the Nigerian states in which the cultivation and plantation of peanuts are in progress. 83 to 85% of peanut production in Nigeria belongs to the aforementioned states. Kano has a major role in the peanut production of Nigeria. In the 1900s, Nigeria with only Kano production was in fourth place globally back then but in the late 1900s Nigerian government shifted from peanut production to the oil industry, and this decreased crop production massively. But after decades, Nigeria again is back to its own place and is now accounted as the fourth productive country in agricultural products, especially peanuts production. We have found out that the climate and the fertilized soil are the most significant and remarkable needs to be able to produce and cultivate high-quality peanuts. Countries with proximity to sea and ocean can be more conducive for the plantation of peanuts because a slightly humid weather condition when the seeds are going to be planted is necessary. The dry season before peanut harvesting also is of great importance. So we can see the district closer to water are more appropriate for these little savory seeds. Peanut production in Nigeria
