Mold is a fungal creature that reproduces rapidly on the organic materials and makes them rot after a short period.
As an Organic material, leather is not exceptional in this role and can be attacked.
Leather is typically covered with tiny hairs, suitable places for living and reproducing molds.
Although we have to keep in mind for such a phenomenon, like the many other similar ones, some elements and conditions are needed for this corruption to occur, and we may name them Humidity and heat.
The other important ones are PH, Oxygen, and light.

How Humidity and Heat Act as the Primary Cause
The exciting thing about molds is that they can live without food, but they die without Humidity.
It is said that whenever there is Humidity, there are mols and fungus inevitably.
From the start point, as raw skin is finished, leather passes through several levels that may not be in the exact location.
For example, the tanning process is done in one country like Brazil, and it is getting completed in Turkey or India means that it may experiment with different degrees of Humidity and heat ( and also PH ).
For better understanding, during passing from the loading port to the destination port, the moisture, and level in the atmosphere is different in the oceans from something in ports or inland.
Regarding heat, there are two ranges where the mold grows to get stopped, Under Zero degrees Celsius and above 40 degrees.
In labs, they keep 30 Celsius degrees with more than 95 % of moisture for leather molding testing.
Light is another cause, which has different effects because molds have different and contradictory behavior against light.
Light for some molds acts as an accelerator, and for others is a kind of deterrent.
How Can Prevent Mold on Leather
Since heat acts as a second important after moisture, we have to know that the room temperature is ideal for keeping leather in a safe mood.
Regarding Leather Jackets, the tight hangers should be used in a location away from direct Sun-Light, like a wardrobe, which is also good not to be wrinkled and fade.
However, the best point for preventing it from being molded is to keep it at an average temperature and put them away from locations like basements and attics that may contain a higher degree of Humidity.
Regarding PH, the range between 4.5 to 5.5 is good since leather likes o be in an acidic area.
Using a fan for drying the air is a good suggestion.
The indoor plumbing systems should be checked repeatedly since water leakage may lead to mold growing up.
The house foundations should be water-proof, and in winter and rainy areas, the possible way of water leakage should be considered.
The molded leather products should be away from the right ones to stop spreading.
The leather should be dried and kept away from wet areas and things.
They should always be clean and should not be left everywhere.
Using AC to dehumidify the environment can be helpful.

How to Clean Mold

If only the water is used for cleaning, it should be distilled ( Tap water should not be used ).

To avoid mold distribution in the home, outside cleaning is recommended.
To clean the products like a leather belt from mold, first, make them dry, clean them with a sponge, and dry them again and make them clean with a leather cleaner or a mild soap.
Apart from what cleaner is used, the critical point is to care not to injure the leather.
How to Kill Molds
To kill the mols and fungus, we may use vinegar, baking soda, alcohol, lemon juice, cosmetics remover, and bleach.
Because it contains UV -Ray, Sunlight can kill the molds (molds can be hardly seen in the outside area).
Though not to be dangerous, molds, whether green or black, can cause some health problems for sensitive people.
However, the way they're removed is almost the same.
Sometimes, both the appearance and structure of leather are entangled. So, using disposable items is recommended (For example, gloves, masks, and clothes for easy discard after use). A suitable place like laundry or an open area away from food, drink, or foodstuffs is good.
The site should have an easy-wash floor and a safe dust bin (for the garbage to be safely thrown- away).
