Grout techniques

The raked joint is a junction in masonry from which the green mortar is swept out to a certain depth while the mortar is still wet. A Flash joint is a masonry junction that is used in brickwork that is made by putting an excessive amount of mortar into the joint, followed by using a trowel to cut away the additional mortar by holding it flat on the brick surface and sliding it along the surface. A joint in masonry in which the mortar is finished level at the surface; also known as a "flush joint." The area in between the tiles is referred to as a "grout joint," and the primary purpose of grout joints is to compensate for minute variations in tile size that occur as a result of the manufacturing process. The most prevalent causes are an excessive amount of wetness, incorrectly mixed grout, inappropriately applied grout and low-quality grout. Other causes include inadequately applied grout and improperly mixed grout. 
In most instances, the area will require re-grouting with the appropriate application methods or with grout that has been mixed correctly. Before eliminating haze it takes exactly one day for grout to become dry. On average, floor grout dries entirely after twenty-four hours; but, due to humidity and other circumstances, this drying time can often be extended to more than forty-eight hours. In certain cases, grout haze can be easily removed by simply buffing it with a dry towel or cheesecloth if the process is started as soon as possible and completed within the first 48 hours.
