Since he founded his company, Roger Vivier has been the only shoe designer of his caliber to design. Ideas, like crystal heels and black sandals, come to Roger Vivier easily and naturally when he sits down to work. Roger Vivier uses sable brushes and watercolor ink to create a freehand sketch for every pair of shoes that he makes. His impressionistic style infuses the subjects he depicts with lines, light, and color, transforming them into stand-alone pieces of art. Roger Vivier draws the complete collection, then brings the sketches to Italian companies to collaborate with his professionals on three-dimensional building. Every step of the shoemaking process is overseen by Roger Vivier, who also makes each sample himself to guarantee that they are true to his original design. In order to fulfill his rigorous standards, he is renowned for hand-planning wooden hooves, carving upper designs, and putting pieces together. After that, the factory workers study the prototypes to produce enough exact replicas to complete the orders.

Numerous critics have called Roger Vivier the "Fragonard of the shoe" and his footwear the "Faberge of the shoe." He created expensive, ornate sandals for sale that he referred to as sculptures. In 1937, he is credited with creating the first platform shoe, and in 1954, he created the first stiletto heel. As shown by several fetish drawings, incredibly thin heels were undoubtedly invented in the late 19th century. However, Vivier revives and develops this luxurious design using a fine steel bar. Clients of Vivier included Ava Gardner, Gloria Guinness, and The Beatles. Vivier also created shoes for Queen Elizabeth II for her 1953 coronation. Between 1953 and 1963, Vivier created footwear for the Christian Dior fashion house. He experimented with many shapes in addition to the pin, such as the comma. She embellished her shoes with distinctive appliqués, gems, pearls, lace, and silk. Vivier created beaded black stretch knit evening shoes and silk satin knee-high boots with jewel trim in the 1960s. The thigh-high, low-heeled black shoes that Vivier created for Rudolf Nureyev's Swan Lake performance were perhaps his most well-known shoe design of the decade. They were worn with suede tights to evoke a space age aesthetic, a tank top, a short wax jacket, and a helmet-like peaked cap and hood. 
The Pilgrim low-heeled pumps with silver buckles from the 1965 Mondrian Yves Saint Laurent collection, which were worn by Catherine Deneuve in the movie Belle de Jour, are arguably the most iconic shoe design of the decade and have inspired numerous copies. Vivier has a store on Rue Faubourg Saint-Honoré, and Vivier flat served as the design inspiration. Bruno Frisoni was responsible for creating the line. Exclusiveness is a defining feature of the brand; many pairs of shoes are manufactured to order, and some feature hand-embroidered gold thread. Currently, the US has three stores. A new one debuted in May 2012. The Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto, the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Musée de la fashion et du Textile at ul. Louvre all have Vivier shoes on exhibit. Diego Della Valle, Tod's, has controlled the company since 2006. In November 2015, Tod's held a 60.7% stake in the shoe company.
Roger Vivier, dubbed the Fabergé of shoes and platform sandals born in 1907, made shoes that appeared to be works of art. He enrolled in the Paris Academy of Fine Arts' sculpting program in 1924 and left two years later to enroll in a shoemaking program and start an apprenticeship. Vivier designed some stage props since the theater and music hall industries fascinated him. Backstage, he met Mistinguett and Josephine Baker, for whom he made special shoes. He opened her first store on Rue Royale in Paris in 1937 as a result of the popularity of her shoes. He was the inventor of the 1954 Aiguille stiletto and the sinuous Virgule heel, which has been regarded as his brand's identity credo since 1963. Heels were his area of specialty. Working closely with the top French fashion firms, he was a master craftsman with a genuine passion for feminine beauty who elevated her shoes to the level of exquisite art. 
Because of his habit of using the names of remarkable ladies, Roger Vivier will always be remembered. In addition to designing the shoes worn by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on her coronation day in 1953, he also made some of his most well-known designs for some of her most notable contemporaries, including The Duchess of Windsor, Princess Soraya of Iran, Marlene Dietrich, Elizabeth Taylor, Brigitte Bardot, and, of course, Catherine Deneuve in "Belle de Jour," the movie that popularized the iconic shoes with silver buckles. Even now, Cate Blanchett, Scarlett Johansson, Charlize Theron, Sharon Stone, Marion Cotillard, Katie Holmes, Jessica Alba, Freida Pinto, Anne Hathaway, Shu Qi, Fan Bingbing, and Jennifer Lawrence continue to appreciate Roger Vivier qualities and skills. 
Roger Vivier Heels
For a long time, the only high heels that fit correctly were those made by Roger Vivier. Then I purchased two 45mm heeled Trompette Tongue pumps. Similar in size, but with exceptionally soft soles, you might need to figure out how to stop the foot from sliding forward. Due to my odd size, I had to upgrade to a 1/2 size 38 after purchasing the suede Roger Vivier Mini Metal Buckle Mules 25. Belle Vivier mules in leather with metal buckles ( confused on RV website this is called size 5.5- which has nothing to do with UK size 5.5, so be careful). I had to downsize to a size 37 in the Belle Vivier Sling Back with a 45mm heel, which is a half size smaller than my usual fit.
