Iranian carpets have different designs that are referred to by different names. Here we describe the types of Persian carpet designs based on the name of the role: These kinds of designs and maps of Iranian carpets have been made from the distant past until now by the people and those involved in the Iranian carpet industry, from weavers and designers to merchants and traders to brokers and middlemen to identify the designs and maps. These names have been passed down to us from generation to generation and word of mouth. These names, which have been made according to the role of the background, border, text, and the use of the carpet, help a lot to better and easier identify the designs and distinguish them from each other. The divisions that have been made on this basis are as follows:

The meaning of division from the point of view of the role of the text is to divide the types of designs and models of Iranian carpets based on the main motifs that are used in the text or canvas of the carpet. 
These motifs form the main and general structure of the carpet design. Based on this, we can name four groups of carpet designs: Tangerine lace design or lace and tangerine design Tareh designs, which use tareh patterns. such as continuous and discontinuous ridges Sequential grid design Layout, nationwide, restricted and hierarchical. There is no trace of bergamot in this carpet. According to the design structure of Iranian carpets, the number of lakhi carpet designs is less than that of tarengdar. - Lakhi Tareh:
This type of carpet includes designs that do not have a fringe and only a lakh design is seen in them. In the dictionary, "tarra" means a strand of hair that hangs next to the ears. Also, the length of the rugs is called tarah. Therefore, here we can say that the elastics that are continued along the length or width of the carpet are called ridged elastic design.
- Tangerine Tareh:
There is no elastic in this design of this type of fringed carpet. Also, the image of Tarrah surrounds the field.
- Simple lath and tanraj design:

- Mihrabi design (Sajadei - Janmazi)
Mehrabi design is one of the most prominent functional themes in Iranian carpets. This pattern is utilized in Iranian architectural art in addition to carpet art. In reality, mihrabi patterns are one of the most prominent designs on the surface and pile of Iranian carpets. These motifs have been and continue to be utilized in a variety of Iranian carpet designs. However, this pattern is primarily utilized today in prayer carpets.
