At that time, when the commander of the faithful Imam Ali (Peace be upon him and his family) faced his enemies in the battle of Jamal, he was crying and weeping at night until the morning prayer, asking God to guide his enemies, even though he knew that he would easily win tomorrow’s war. He wished for his enemies’ guidance and repeatedly said:
Lord, my heart is not satisfied with killing this group, but they have made Muslims suffer through their insurgence, and I must get rid of their evil.
Lord, guidance is in your hands; please guide them, so I don’t have to shed their blood.
However, their cruelty was beyond the limit, and except for a few who were guided and returned, most of them chose the wrong path and went astray, and what was supposed to happen did happen.
And because a few nights before the primary battle, the enemies attacked the Imam’s army, the Imam’s companions wanted to retaliate against this move of the enemy.
The Imam recited the opening verses of Surah An-Naba, and when they reached the part about the night where God refers to the comfort of the night, he stopped and said: God has made the night a source of comfort and not a source of war.
They fight based on their beliefs, and we fight based on our beliefs.
And tomorrow, everyone will be resurrected based on their own beliefs.
And when they were victorious, many warriors in the Imam’s army wanted to loot the properties of the defeated and take their wives and children captive. This was a common method during the time of the three previous caliphs.
But the Imam, peace be upon him, prevented them and said: If we fought with them, it was not to take possession of their property and their wives but to ward off the sedition they had started.
He set women and their children free, considered assaulting them a crime, and left their property at the disposal of their families.
However, he only took horses, swords, and weapons of war from his enemies so that they would not have the power to cast sedition again.
This is the attitude of the pious master against his enemies who had conspired to kill him.

All these years, lack of money and poverty surrounded the country while teaching people for one year could cure many pains.
