- Turbo/Jet pumps are a combination of surface and submersible pumps as they have a submersible pump and a surface motor. They are suitable where the water supply surface fluctuates as they can use suction to lift the water, which adds to their versatility as well as high capacity performance at low pressure levels.
- Propeller pumps can be axial or mixed flow and are used in installations where the pump is located very close to the surface of the water supply and needs to generate a high flow. They do not create high pressure, but they provide high capacity.

Due to the characterization of jet irrigation pumps, it becomes a commonly used water elevator in India. Jet pumps are used in a variety of applications that involve moving water from a source to a destination. If your home is supplied primarily with well water, you may need a jet pump to draw water from the well if the depth is more than 25 feet. Jet pumps generate a lot of pressure and work similar to a jet engine. A jet pump sprays water through a venturi valve to create an area of lower water pressure so that overall water pressure builds up enough to create differential pressure. This increased "jet" power allows the jet pump to move water at a higher PSI, allowing the pump to pump water from depths of up to 200 feet or more, depending on the altitude. For a jet pump to generate suction and operate, its motorized impeller moves water through a narrow jet in front of the impeller, causing the water to move quickly. Eventually, a vacuum is created and the extra water is absorbed. All water coming up the pipe is stored in the piping system. If you have shallow wells, jet pumps are the type of well pump you need. It sits above the ground and is designed to suck water from the ground or body of water through a suction pipe. Jet pumps are older technology, but have been trusted for decades to pump water from the ground. Jet pumps are usually part of a well pump pressure tank system. If your jet pump only has one hose, it is called a shallow well jet pump (good for wells less than 25 feet), while a jet pump with two hoses is good for wells up to 100 feet deep.

Jet irrigation pumps are a popular type of pump used in Australia and New Zealand (NZ). These pumps are floor mounted and not submersible. They are typically used to pump water from a source below the pump through a suction line to provide potable or household water pressure. That is, for houses, villas, and sprinkler/irrigation systems. These pumps must be started before they are ready to pump. Jet pumps can be used as manual pumps (turning the pump on and off manually as needed) or fitted with a pressure switch so they can operate automatically. There are two types of pressure switch settings for jet pumps, these are automatic constant pressure controllers such as the well known "pressure control" controllers or adjustable pressure switches used in conjunction with pressure tanks. A jet pump is a centrifugal pump with one or more impellers and diffusers with the addition of an ejector. JET EJECTOR consists of matching nozzles and venturis. The nozzle receives high pressure water. As the water passes through the jet, the water velocity (velocity) increases dramatically, but the pressure drops. This action is the same as spraying with a garden hose at the start of the nozzle closure. The greatly increased water velocity combined with the low pressure around the tip of the nozzle is what causes the suction around the nozzle. The water around the jet nozzle is sucked into the water stream and carried away with it. For the nozzle to be effective, it must be used in conjunction with a venturi. The venturi brings the high-pressure high-velocity jet back to force it back toward the centrifugal pump. Jets and venturis are basic in appearance, but they must be carefully planned and carefully coordinated to be viable in an assortment of pumping conditions. Nozzles and venturis are also known as injector/injector kits. 
Jet Irrigation Pump USA
In developed countries such as the USA, Jet irrigation pumps are manufactured for domestic requirements and for international trades as a commodity. There are two sorts of jet pumps: shallow well and deep well. The best type of jet pump for your application will depend on the depth of your well. Shallow well jet pumps are used to deliver water from wells as deep as 25 feet. Deep well jet pumps are typically used for depths down to about 200 feet. Compared to shallow well pumps, deep well jet pumps can deliver larger volumes of water faster and farther. Note that altitude will affect the specific depth the pump will pump. 
Use a shallow well pump to draw water vertically from 25 feet or more when the pump is above the water source When the pump is above the water source, use a deep well pump to pump 25 to 200 feet of water vertically into the water. Deep well pumps may also be referred to as convertible jet pumps. This means that the pump can be used in shallow or deep wells. In shallow well configurations, the injector kit (or jet kit) is built into or attached to the pump. For deep wells, place the kit in the well. This syringe kit helps bring water up from the bottom of the well. It is important to remember that the jet pump can never run dry. Idling the pump can seriously and permanently damage the pump.

UK jet irrigation pump becomes one of the markets leading products in the international market. There is a used component in the jet irrigation pump named injector. On shallow well jet pumps, the injector kit (jet nozzle and venturi) is located in the pump body in front of the impeller. Part of the suction water is recirculated through the ejector and the rest goes into the pressure tank. Since the ejector is located on the suction side of the pump, the suction is greatly increased. This allows the centrifugal pump to increase its effective suction lift from approximately 20 feet to 28 feet. However, as the distance between the pump and the water increases, the amount of water supplied to the storage tank decreases...more water must be recirculated to operate the injector. 
The difference between a deep well jet pump and a shallow well jet pump is the location of the injector. Deep well ejectors are located in wells below the water level. Deep well injectors work the same way as shallow well injectors. It is supplied with water under the pressure of the pump. The ejector at that point returns the water and extra water from the well to the centrifugal pump where the suction can lift it up to the level of the leftover portion. Convertible jet pumps allow shallow well operations with jets installed at the end of the pump body. This sort of pump can be changed over to a deep well jet pump by installing the jet underneath the water level.

The terms "deep well" and "convertible" jet pumps can be confusing because they actually refer to the same type of pump. All jet pumps are "deep well" and "convertible", which means they can be used in shallow well applications or to pump water from deep wells. Deep well jet pumps are designed to draw water from depths of over 25 feet to approximately 200 feet, depending on the elevation of your geographic location. Areas with higher elevations may result in the jet pump towing capacity being less than the manufacturer's specifications. Convertible jet pumps can be used to pump water from shallower water sources such as rivers, lakes, or streams. Jet pumps can be used for a variety of purposes, including:
- Drinking water supply to the house from a well
- Sprinkler system water supply
- Other DIY projects around the house or farm
Jet Irrigation Pumps Zimbabwe
Thanks to increasing farming in developing countries such as Zimbabwe, jet irrigation pumps become a handy tool for farmers. They are referred to as such because they are similar to jet engines in that they generate a lot of pressure. The jet pump is installed on the ground and cannot be submerged. They are commonly used to pump water from a well through a suction pipe to provide potable or household water pressure. Other common applications, of course not limited to, include light commercial or residential irrigation and water supply to sprinkler systems. Jet pumps are generally more popular in hot climates or areas with high water tables. One of the popular pumps in Zimbabwe is multistage jet irrigation pump. Multistage centrifugal pumps have the advantage of higher efficiency due to tighter impeller clearances and smaller impeller diameters. 
Higher pressures can be achieved by using a smaller motor size and less power. They also have a smaller footprint. Multistage centrifugal pumps may cost more than a small end suction, but will be cheaper to operate. They also don't handle solids and require a VFD to handle any kind of pressure change. But perhaps the biggest caveat is that if the pump fails, you run the risk of dying in the water. Single-stage tandem centrifugal pump with isolation/bypass valve for system flexibility and manual pressure control. For example, pipes can divert the flow from a pump if less pressure is needed. This allows for standby pumps to be in the system, or at least some to run in the event of a failure. However, these pumps may not be efficient, depending on the type of impeller. Motors can be larger than multi-stages, not to mention the number of motors required. The choice between using multiple pumps or multiple stages to generate more head is highly dependent on each application.
