26. Stand by Your Trade, or Else…
Humans were created free—with intellect, choice, and the power to build a future they can be proud of.
Yet many people today live like tools in the hands of others.
They work just to survive—not to build a life.
In a world where opportunities are open to everyone,
why should you spend your entire life doing a job where someone else has set your income limit?
Why should you wait for someone to pay you, to approve your leave, to decide when you work and when you rest?
This lifestyle resembles servitude, not freedom.
It's like being a permanent tenant in a land where you’re the rightful owner of your talents.
Being an employee or a laborer may sometimes appear respectable, but the truth is:
You sell your time, yet you don’t grow.
You work, but you're building someone else's dream.
In contrast, trade means building.
It means decision-making, risk-taking, learning, and growth.
Trade means you are the creator of income—not just a recipient.
And it’s the only job where the limit of your income isn’t set by others, but by you.
🔹 If reason is your guide, shouldn’t it lead you to the path with the greatest chance for flourishing?
Trade is exactly that path.
And if religion is your guide, then hear these words:
🔸 The Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) said:
“Nine-tenths of sustenance lies in trade.”
That means if you’re seeking sustenance, you must recognize the main path.
All forms of employment—when combined—make up just one-tenth, while trade alone accounts for nine-tenths.
🔸 Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said:
“Whoever seeks lawful earnings to support himself and his family is like a warrior in the path of God.”
Is the one who engages in trade to make his family independent not worthy of honor?
Isn’t the person who stands on their own feet better than the one who waits for their monthly paycheck?
🔸 The Holy Qur’an says:
“Allah has permitted trade and forbidden usury.”
Why did God make trade lawful and usury forbidden?
Because in trade, profit comes with effort and toil.
But in usury, profit comes with laziness and draining others’ lifeblood.
Usurious investing means you give money and expect profit from those who need it least.
But trade means you provide a product or service, meet people’s needs, and then earn your profit.
In trade, you grow—and others grow with you.
So, if you have both faith and intellect, then trade is your only real path.
Employment has a ceiling.
Labor is limited.
Usury is forbidden.
But trade is a free world for those with thought and initiative.
🔹 If you want to be independent—go into trade.
🔹 If you want to never beg anyone—go into trade.
🔹 If you want dignity in life and death—go into trade.
🔹 If you want your child to say “my father was no slave”—go into trade.
Even if today you have nothing, as long as you have intention and willpower, you can still become a trader.
Trade doesn’t start with capital—
it starts with understanding, belief, and market exploration.
God opens the doors of wealth to those who move, not those who only pray.
From today, choose your path:
Remain a wage-earner—or become a trader.
And know for sure:
If you won’t stand on your own two feet, the world will always be ready to bring you to your knees.
