Choose the type of strap you wish to create before beginning to create a shoulder strap for your bag. Do you want the length to be flexible or set in stone? Attachment types: rivet, buckle, or snap? Generally speaking, it's a good idea to maintain uniformity between the strap and bag styles. Depending on the size and dimensions of the bag, the shoulder strap should be between 5/8 and 1 1/2 inches broad. Straps wider than 1 1/2 inches in width slide off the shoulder. 
There should be at least two locations on the bag where the strap is firmly fastened. In this scenario, you'll need to make a strap that has an end that fits into the bigger bag's existing 1" D-ring (or the smaller bag's existing 3/4" D-ring). You can measure the length of the strap on the bag you're currently carrying or place a fabric tape measure over your shoulder to determine the appropriate length. The strap is a decent standard length, in my case 40 inches, and allows the bag to sit around your hips. Create a strap that may be adjusted in length. To create such a strap, create the pattern similar to how you would for a single layer strap, but add a sewing line approximately 1/8 inch from the pattern's edge. Although I'm constructing a double-shaped belt in the image rather than a strap, the concept is the same. The end ends are often not trimmed until the two layers are sewed together in order to properly match the edges of the two layers of leather that make up the strap. Cut a piece of leather for this that is at least 1/4 inch bigger on both sides than the strap design. Bring the flesh sides of the two pieces of leather together and secure them with glue or double-sided tape. The size of the second one is the same as the first one. A leather or canvas bag looks beautiful with round handles or straps, and they help strengthen thin straps. 
When the top of the bag is open, pairs of round handles are frequently manufactured and attached to either side. The ends of the strap should be molded or sewn directly to the bag or ring to attach the handle. Designing these terminal forms may give your creation a unique look.
