One of the main reasons for its high price is because it is cultivated in limited areas, and moreover, it has different quality grades in those limited areas.
Not all the dates produced in an area are considered grade A, so there is minimal grade A Piarom dates available.
Like other types of palm trees, the Piarom palm tree needs to be pollinated to bear fruit.
Pollination is typically done in March and April because the weather conditions suit best.
About four months later, this fruit starts changing color in early August and turns yellow.
In this stage, the fruit gradually starts being sweet rather than astringent.
This process takes about one month, and in early September, it starts turning brown to move into the Rutab stage.
The Rutab stage is where the dates have the highest level of moisture and syrup, and due to the high moisture, it needs unique storage conditions.
That is why dates are less harvested in this stage, and most companies and farmers allow it to lose more moisture cultivating it in the final stage.
