Bitumen 60/70 can work well and is suitable for any application but it’s widely used in road construction.
Bitumen 60/70 Specification
The 60/70 bitumen is a type of bitumen with moderate penetration grade so it’s not too hard nor too soft and it’s the most commonly applicable bitumen for road paving and maintenance, because of the high tolerance in the matter of heart and strength.
That’s why it’s also called paving grade bitumen which is because of the features mentioned before.
This bitumen is used in the mix of hot asphalt to make it more consistent and durable while paving the roads.
This grade of bitumen is also applied in the covering and coating industries.
To understand the meaning of 60/70 bitumen, we need to know what the values 60 and 70 mean.
After the production of bitumen, it’s tested in the matter of penetration at the 25 degrees temperature.
These parameters show the amount of adhesion and hardness the bitumen would have in any application.
There are many grades in which bitumen is classified; the standard grades are 30/40, 40/50, 60/70, 80/100, and 100/120.
There are also other specifications for this grade apart from the penetration including viscosity, flash point, ductility, softening point, and loss of heating discussed in the following paragraph.
As mentioned above, there are other specifications which have significant impact on the quality of the 60/70 bitumen.
Specifications such as viscosity, flash point, ductility, softening point and so on, are of great importance, too.
Each of these parameters have their own effect on the quality.
60/70 bitumen has better viscosity comparing with other grades which also has great effect on the performance of bitumen while mixed with the asphalt.
The specifications of our bitumen are as followed in the table below.
Bitumen 60/70 vs 80/100
The main difference between 60/70 and 80/100 bitumen is the difference between the penetration values.
This difference causes the texture of 60/70 bitumen to be much harder than the 80/100.
As mentioned before, the penetration value directly effects the consistency and durability of the product.
Lower penetration value means higher level of consistency so 80/100 bitumen tends to be softer than the 60/70 which makes it more suitable for colder areas whereas the 60/70 can be used in high-traffic areas and warm regions where the quality and durability of asphalt is of great importance.
Therefore the stiffness is the main difference between the 60/70 and 80/100 bitumen.
The significance of this factor is because road construction and the quality of asphalt depends on the quality of the bitumen mixes with it, the more suitable bitumen grade, gives you the more suitable and durable pavement.
This matter is mostly important in high transit routes.
Bitumen 60/70 Packaging
Bitumen’s packaging is a real concern especially if it’s meant to be exported, the better and safer packaging, guarantees the better delivery of the cargo.
There are several different ways to package the bitumen which can vary depending on the tonnage, type, and grade of the bitumen- as mentioned before, different grades of bitumen have different levels of stiffness and viscosity- so the grade also plays an important role in choosing a suitable packaging.
Generally there are three types of common packaging in which the manufacturer can provide the customer with, which are jumbo bags, drums and bulk.
Jumbo bags are multi-layer bags, resistant to any conditions.
