8 European countries alongside two non-European Countries-New Zealand and USA- were major exporters of dairy products in the world which exported about three quarter of these products in the world.
As the Word Trade Center statistics show, New Zealand's value of exported dairy products in 2021 was about $US 12.35 billion, followed by Germany with about 11.62 billion USD.
Netherlands, France, United States, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, Poland, and Denmark were other major exporters of dairy products in the world.
As the market of dairy products has been expanding in the post-pandemic era, the top exporting countries can play a major role in stabilizing the market.
According to official statistics, the shipping of dairy products from United States has declined recently and China's demands have been significantly rising, so, Oceanian countries like New Zealand and Australia are expected to be the key suppliers of dairy products in the future. In the globally growing market of dairy products, 10 top exporter countries, especially Oceanian countries, like New Zealand, has an important role in stabilizing market.
Despite the fact that the United Stats' export to China has go up and the country is the fifth place among the 10 top exporting countries, but its overall exporting dairy products has declined in recent years.
It means that New Zealand will have a key role in near future of dairy products.
Top Milk Exporting Countries 2020
While India is the largest producer of milk in the world, it is New Zealand that takes over the first place among 10 major exporter countries regarding milk export worldwide.
According to world trade statistics, the value of milk exported by all countries in 2020, was $ 29.1 billion which shows 23.9% growth compared to the 5-year period starting in 2016, when the value of milk shipped worldwide was $ 23.4 billion.
Among the major exporters of milk, New Zealand, Germany, the United States, Netherlands, and France were the 5 top exporters globally.
By 22.4% ($ 6.5 billion) of total exported milk, New Zealand was the leading country in the world.
followed by Germany which exported 10.1% ($ 2.9 billion) of all shipped milk worldwide.
The United States by 7.9% ($ 2.3 billion), Netherland by 7.5% ($ 2.2 billion), and France by 6.2% ($ 1.8 billion) were the other key exporters of milk in the world.
Belgium, Australia, Poland, Ireland, and United Kingdom were other key exporters of milk globally. From a continental perspective, European counties exported more than half of the global exported milk, but New Zealand (Oceania) itself exported 25.6% of worldwide milk exported total.
United States and Australia are other major exporters of milk in the world.
Dairy Exports by Country
According to statistics published by Statista website, the export value of dairy products in 2021 was about 63.6 billion, which exported by various countries worldwide.
It shows a 3% growth compared to previous year, when the total exported value was 61.7 billion USD.
The European countries were major exporters of dairy products which followed by Oceanian countries, like New Zealand and Austria.
From the country perspective, New Zealand is the leading country in the world regarding exporting of dairy products.
Other major dairy exporter countries in the world were the Netherlands, Ireland, European Union, Germany, Belgium, France, Belarus, United Kingdom, Denmark, Poland, India, Finland, United States, Spain, Australia, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Italy, and Argentina.
They are the major and key producers and exporters of dairy products in the world. From the perspective of the product, cheese is in top of exported list in the European Union, following by fat-filled milk powder, Latte Confezionato, whey, SMP, Yogurt and Buttermilk, Infant milk formula, condensed Milk, WMP Cream, Butter and other Fats, Lactose and Pharmaceutical.
For instance, in 2021, European Union exported about 1386 metric tons of cheese, 1,290 mt fat-filled milk powder, 1,079 mt Latta Confezionato, 831 mt whey and 789 mt SMP.
In the Unites State, milk was in top of exported list, followed by cream, butter and cheese.
In New Zealand, also milk was more exported product, followed by cream, yogurt, butter, and cheese.
From $ 63.5 billion value of exported dairy products, New Zealand is in the first place by far with nearly 23% of total exported products, followed by Germany Netherlands, France, United States, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, Poland, and Denmark.
They are the 10 top exporters of dairy products in the world.
There were other key producers of dairy products, which consume more of their products domestically.
Top Milk Importing Countries
From the US$ 30 billion worldwide milk imports in 2020, nearly half of the product imported by 10 top milk importer countries and over one third of total purchased, imported by 5 top importers in the world.
The value of all imported milk worldwide increased by 19.6 percent, compared to 2016, when all purchased milk in the world was 25.1 billion USD.
As the official statistics shows, China is the key importer of milk in the world, which imports 15.5% of total milk imports (4.6 billion USD) annually. Beside China, the major milk importers of milk in the world were Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, and Italy; these 5 top importers collectively bought about one third (33%) of total world imported milk.
Germany by 1.8 billion USD (6.2% of world imported total), Netherlands 1.3 billion USD (4.2%), Belgium by 1.11 USD (3.7%), and Italy by 1.06 billion USD (3.5%) followed China in 2020.
The fastest-growing market since 2016, were China, Nigeria, Indonesia, and Malaysia, which have gone up 115.4%, 105.4%, 56.4%, and 38% respectively.
From the continental perspective, Asian countries imported the highest amount of milk by costing 11.2 billion or 45.4% of the global total.
European countries were in the second place by importing 33.4 % of world total, while 11.3% of total milk, imported by African importers.
To conclude, the key importer of milk in the world in 2020, was China followed by 4 European countries (Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, and Italy).
Asian countries collectively were in the first place regarding importing milk, while European and African countries were in the next places.
The world market of milk has been going up steadily since 2016 and the fastest-growing market belonged to China, Nigeria, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
